Testament

The Old Testament forms the foundation of Scripture—revealing God’s creation, covenant, law, promises, and dealings with His people. It prepares the way for the Messiah and provides the theological structure upon which the New Testament stands.

History

The Historical Books trace Israel’s journey in the Promised Land, from conquest to kingdom to exile and return. They reveal God’s faithfulness, human responsibility, and the consequences of obedience and disobedience within God’s covenant.

Joshua

Joshua describes Israel’s entrance into the Promised Land and God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His covenant promises. It portrays God as a victorious warrior who establishes His people when they walk in obedience and trust.

Judges

Judges reveals Israel’s repeated cycle of disobedience, oppression, repentance, and deliverance. It demonstrates the consequences of moral compromise and the need for faithful leadership under God’s rule.              

Ruth

Ruth tells a story of loyalty, redemption, and God’s providence through ordinary faithfulness. It highlights God’s work behind the scenes and points to His redemptive purposes unfolding through family and covenant love.

1 Samuel

1 Samuel records the transition from judges to kings, focusing on Samuel, Saul, and David. It emphasizes God’s sovereignty in leadership and shows that obedience matters more than outward authority.

2 Samuel

2 Samuel traces the reign of King David, revealing both the blessings of God’s covenant and the consequences of sin. It highlights God’s enduring promise of a royal lineage despite human weakness.

1 Kings

1 Kings chronicles Israel’s monarchy from Solomon’s reign to the kingdom’s division. It shows how faithfulness to God leads to blessing, while idolatry and disobedience bring decline.                       

2 Kings

2 Kings records the continued decline of Israel and Judah, leading to exile. It underscores God’s justice, patience, and faithfulness to His word, even as His people repeatedly turn away.                               

1 Chronicles

1 Chronicles retells Israel’s history with a focus on worship, the Davidic line, and God’s covenant purposes. It emphasizes God’s faithfulness and the centrality of proper worship and leadership.

2 Chronicles

2 Chronicles highlights the spiritual history of Judah’s kings, stressing repentance, reform, and reliance on God. It shows how humility and obedience invite God’s restoration.                           

Ezra

Ezra documents the return from exile and the rebuilding of the temple. It emphasizes God’s faithfulness to restore His people and the importance of obedience to His Word.                                                       

Nehemiah

Nehemiah records the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls and the spiritual renewal of the community. It highlights godly leadership, perseverance, and dependence on God in restoring His people.

Esther

Esther reveals God’s providential care for His people during exile, even when His name is not mentioned. It demonstrates that God works behind the scenes to preserve His covenant purposes.
